What Is TRT?

Testosterone Replacement
Therapy Explained

Testosterone treatment — also known as testosterone replacement therapy — is a catch-all term for hormone therapy consisting of injections or other forms of supplemental testosterone. TRT is a medical treatment used to help eliminate symptoms in men (and some women) who have lower-than-average T-serum levels.

Physicians prescribe TRT to reverse symptoms associated with low energy, increased fat deposits, loss of muscle tone, and brittle bones. It can also be prescribed as a treatment for andropause — a hormone imbalance that occurs in older men, sometimes called "male menopause."

Notably, TRT doesn't only supplement testosterone. When given at the correct dosage, it can also trigger the gonads to produce more testosterone naturally.

Am I a Candidate?

Who Is TRT Right For?

TRT can be a beneficial treatment for andropause in otherwise healthy men over 30 years of age. Research has shown that men begin to experience dips in testosterone levels around age 30. The gradual reduction goes unnoticed by some, but others may begin to feel the unpleasant side effects that accompany Low T.

Good Candidates

Healthy men over 30 years of age
Low energy, fatigue, or reduced motivation
Decreased libido or sexual performance
Loss of muscle mass despite regular exercise
Increased body fat, especially around the abdomen
Mood changes, irritability, brain fog, or mild depression
Difficulty sleeping or waking unrefreshed

TRT Is NOT Recommended For

Men with a history of heart attacks or heart problems
Enlarged prostate or prostate cancer
Those at risk of developing prostate cancer

Dr. Hansel completes a full physical assessment before hormone therapy is ever considered, to make sure each patient is healthy enough for TRT. Your safety always comes first.

What to Expect

The Benefits of Testosterone Therapy

Testosterone has a widespread effect on almost every organ system in the body. Here's what patients report.

Higher Energy & Stamina

Most patients report a dramatic increase in daily energy and endurance — the drive and vitality you had in your 20s.

Better Focus & Mood

Enhanced mood, better concentration, reduced brain fog, and improved memory are among the most commonly reported early benefits.

Increased Muscle Mass

Studies show men on TRT lost on average nearly six more pounds than those who relied on diet and exercise alone — and the weight lost was almost exclusively fat.

Weight Loss & Leaner Body

TRT has cosmetic benefits including weight loss and increased muscle tone — particularly around the midsection where Low T tends to accumulate fat.

Stronger Bones

Bone mineral density increases with TRT in aging men — drastically improving conditions like osteoporosis and reducing fracture risk.

Reduced Disease Risk

Andropause is linked to osteoporosis, Alzheimer's Disease, and increased prostate cancer risk. HRT helps reduce these risks while restoring vigor.

Within weeks of starting therapy, most patients report greater brain responsiveness, reduced fat, a healthier heart, and an overall renewed body.

Treatment Options

How We Administer TRT

Typically, we administer testosterone therapy via intramuscular injection because it's more efficient and allows us to monitor dosage more easily. In some circumstances, topical gels and creams can be prescribed — but these are usually only recommended for men who need a lower-dose TRT plan.

When it comes to dosage, we take care to create a customized testosterone replacement therapy regimen individualized to each patient — there is no one-size-fits-all approach here.

Preferred Method
Intramuscular Injections

More efficient delivery, allows precise dosing and easier monitoring. Dr. Hansel's primary recommendation for most patients.

Topical Gels & Creams

Available in some circumstances — usually only recommended for men who need low-dose TRT after individualized assessment.
